EEG Findings in Hospitalized Children and Adolescents with Conduct Disorder

@EN The purpose of our study was to investigate whether conduct disorder has EEG abnormalities. We studied no the abnormal EEG findings in hospitalize conduct disorder and compared them to those in psychosis(schizophrenia or mood disorder) and
convulsive disorder.
@ES Method:
@EN We selected 54 patients with conduct disorder who were studied with EEG(16 channel Nihon-Koden) at the child-adolescent inpatient ward during the period of January 1, 1989 through December 31, 1994. The first control group consisted of 41
pateints
with psychosis admitted to the child-adolescent inpatient ward during that period. The second control group consisted of 10 inpatients with convulsive disorders during that period and 31 outpatients during the period of January 1, 1993 through
December
31 1994. EEG recordings were reviewed and analyzed according to degrees of EEG abnormality(Hojin Myung, 1973) along with chart review. The diagnosis was made on DSM III-R criteria by two psychiatrists and one psychiatric resident. We analyzed
data
with
one way ANOVA and chisquare test.
@ES Result:
@EN Patients with conduct disorder showed abnormal EEG findings more frequently than patients with psychosis who are known to show more abnormal EEG findings than normal population, but less frequently than patients with convulsive disorder EEG
patterns did not significantly differ between patients with conduct disorder and psychosis. EEG patterns significantly differed between conduct disorder and convulsive disorder in terms of highly epileptiform discharge in convulsive disorder.
@ES Conclusion:
@EN The authors suggest that one of etiologic factor of conduct disorder may be related to psychophysiologic factors.
